Date and foreign-exchange context

The gold and silver measures
The gold benchmark is the market value of 85 grams of gold, while the silver benchmark is the value of 595 grams of silver. These weights correspond to the classical measures commonly used for nisab. Their converted totals can differ substantially because the metals have different prices. Both are shown so you can identify the standard relevant to your method rather than treating them as interchangeable.
Nisab and the hawl
Reaching nisab is only one part of assessing Zakat. For assets subject to a lunar-year holding period, eligible wealth generally must meet the applicable threshold for a complete hawl. Rules vary by asset and school of law, including how changes during the year are handled. Record when qualifying wealth first reaches nisab and track cash, savings, investments, trade goods, receivables, and deductible liabilities.
